The real M3 GTS
In November 2009, BMW M GmbH presented the M3 GTS, the direct successor to the M3 CSL. BMW produced only 150 units of the GTS and offered them at a price of 136,850 €. The lightweight M3 now weighs only 1530 kilograms – a weight saving of 50 kilograms compared to the standard M3. BMW increased the displacement of the engine to 4.4 liters by a larger piston stroke, and the power output increased to 331 kW.
Instead of the rear seats, there is a bolted roll bar behind the B-pillar in the GTS, which can be converted into a full roll cage. The body offers mounting points for the installation of Schroth four- or six-point safety belts suitable for racing. There is also a mounting option for a fire extinguisher behind the front seats.
BMW motorsport manufactory was building the M3 GTS individually according to customer order and for the time being approved for road traffic in Germany by individual acceptance. The first models were delivered from May 2010.
As a limousine counterpart to the M3 GTS, BMW presented the M3 CRT in 2011, which was sold in 67 units from 2012. The abbreviation CRT stands for Carbon Racing Technology and refers to the weight loss of approx. 70 kg compared to a similarly equipped standard M3 sedan. The sedan is powered by the engine of the BMW M3 GTS, but compared to the latter, the CRT does not have a roll cage and 4-point seat belts. Particularly striking in the M3 CRT are the silver matt paint finish, red color accents on the body and in the interior, and a titanium exhaust system.
