The NASCAR Next Gen Camaro ZL1 is one of those CSR2 cars people either ignore completely or build properly and then never take out of the garage. It looks like a novelty. It is not. Once it is maxed it sits comfortably among the quicker Tier 5 cars, and it does it without the price tag of a hypercar.

What the NASCAR Next Gen Camaro ZL1 is

The Next Gen car is NASCAR's modern chassis, and CSR2's version is the stock-car bodyshell dropped into Tier 5 rather than a road-going Camaro. That matters more than it sounds. It is not a rebadged ZL1 1LE with a wing. It behaves like a purpose-built race car, which means the build is straightforward and the payoff comes from fusion parts rather than clever compromises.

The number to pay attention to is 135 fusion parts. That is a large slot count, and it is where nearly all of this car's real performance lives. A ZL1 with every stage installed but a thin fusion pool is a different, slower car than the one running 6.851s. Two identical looking builds can be several tenths apart purely on fusion.

What 6.851s actually means

Treat 6.851s as the target a complete build reaches, not a guarantee you will see on your first pass. Getting there assumes all stages installed and the fusion slots genuinely filled. Every missing fusion part costs you a slice of that time. This is the single most common reason a player follows a build guide, ends up half a second off, and concludes the tune is wrong. Usually the tune is fine and the fusion pool is not full.

How to get one

The long way

The ZL1 arrives through events and season content. That route costs you nothing but time, and time is the expensive part: you need the car itself, then the stage upgrades, then enough fusion parts to actually fill 135 slots. Players routinely get the car, run it half-built, and never finish it. A half-built Tier 5 stock car is not competitive.

The short way

If the event window has closed, or you simply do not want to grind fusion parts for weeks, you can get it delivered already maxed. Every stage done, nothing left to chase.

Which Camaro ZL1 is which

This is where most people buy the wrong car. CSR2 has several vehicles with almost the same name, and they are not interchangeable.

NASCAR Camaro ZL1 (2020) and ZL1 JE (2020): the stock-car bodies. Tier 5.
Camaro ZL1 NASCAR (2022): the Next Gen chassis, the one this guide is about.
Camaro ZL1 1LE (2018): a road car. Completely different vehicle, different tier behaviour.
Camaro ZL1 Crew (2017): a crew reward car, again a road Camaro.

If you want the car that runs 6.851s, you want a NASCAR body, not a 1LE. Check the year and the word NASCAR before you commit.

Is it worth building?

Yes, with a caveat. It is worth building if you are going to finish it. The ZL1 rewards a complete build and punishes a partial one harder than most Tier 5 cars, because so much of its performance is locked behind fusion slots rather than stages. If you know you will not grind 135 fusion parts, either buy it finished or spend your time on a car that is competitive at 80 percent.

As a Tier 5 option it earns its place. It is quick, it is cheaper to acquire than the headline hypercars, and it is genuinely useful in the events that keep coming back around.

Using it sensibly

One honest note, because we would rather tell you this up front than have you find out later. Nothing in CSR2 is completely risk free, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling you something. Build the car, race it, use it the way a normal player would. Sudden, extreme jumps are what draw attention, not owning a fast car.
