The real Ford Mustang Mach-E 1400

1,419 hp from 7 electric motors. The one-off was created in collaboration with RTR Vehicles, a company that specializes in Ford tuning and is headed by the well-known drift racer Vaughn Gittin Jr. A total of 10,000 hours of development work went into the one-off, plus Ford’s performance department contributed a large slew of vehicle components.

With the Mach E 1400, Ford and RTR want to demonstrate the technical possibilities of an electric car. The model is based on the no less spectacular Mustang Cobra Jet 1400. Unlike this drag racer, the Mach E 1400 also goes around corners – it could compete as a track or drift model.

To that end, Ford has adapted the aerodynamics, offering more than a ton of downforce at over 250 mph. A bold apron emblazons the front, showing off huge air intakes and numerous spoiler lips and flaps. The contoured front hood is made of organic composite fibers, making it a lightweight alternative to carbon fiber laminate, which makes up the rest of the car’s body. It also features large air outlets.

The Mach E 1400 is powered by a total of seven electric motors. By comparison, the Mustang Mach E GT has five. Three electric motors are located on the front differential, while four motors are sandwiched in front of the rear differential. The electric motors act on the differentials via a common drive shaft.

On board the Mustang Mach E 1400 is a 56.8 kWh battery with nickel-manganese-cobalt cells. They are designed to ensure “ultra-high” power and high “discharge rate,” according to Ford. To charge the Ford faster between race runs, the battery system is cooled. The highlight for drift fans: the hydraulic handbrake system, which is integrated into the powertrain control system to cut power to the rear motors.
